Tips for RV Travel with Kids
One of the amazing things about having an RV for travel is the ability to travel as a family. Road tripping can be exhausting and taxing on the whole family when cooped up in the same vehicle together for extended amounts of time. RV’s can make travel a lot easier and less strenuous on your little ones. Read on for some tips on RV travel with kids.
Shorten Driving Time
One of the most important things to do when planning travel with children is to make sure that your travel days are shorter than they would be when you travel without kids. Kids get restless and antsy a lot easier than adults and they can become impatient on drives that are too long. You may not want to do shorter spurts of travel or think that you’ll be able to do it the same as you would be yourself but you shouldn’t skip over this tip. Keeping the kids happy and the travel within their limits will make your trip so much easier.
Plan Ahead for the Small Things
With kids, a road trip can get a lot more complicated. When on a road trip with just adults, you don’t have to plan ahead for small details or for the same things as you should with kids. Things like bathroom breaks, road snacks, and playtime are important things to plan out in order to have a smooth trip.
Bathroom Breaks
Kids are not like adults when it comes to going to the bathroom on the road, they can’t fly by the seat of their pants and figure it out when the time arrives like adults can. It’s important to plan for bathroom breaks because children often need to be asked (sometimes several times) if they need to go to the bathroom, and encouraged to do so at certain times to prevent extra stops or being stuck with no bathroom.
Road Snacks
Planning to have certain snacks for them while driving is important too. As adults, we can often just drive until we get hungry and then simply find a place along the way to eat. Kids however, are often picky eaters and get cranky if they get hungry and can’t wait long.
Playtime
Planning to have playtime incorporated throughout the trip is essential as well. Not only will it keep them happy and exercise their energy but it is also something that is a part of their regular routine at home so still having it will make life easier.
Plan Kid Friendly Activities
Wherever your travels take you there is always so much to do and to see. But before you decide how badly you want to go to that cool bar in Detroit, you’ll need to consider the fact that you’re traveling with kids. When you make plans for activities to do at certain stops in your trips you need to make sure that they are kid friendly or that you’ll even be able to do it with kids around. Not only that but it’s important to take into consideration things that your children would want to do. What would get them excited to do and put a smile on their face on this trip? Ask them about some of the options and have them pick out a couple of things that they would love to do. But don’t be discouraged if you still want to do those activities that are not kid friendly! If there are multiple adults with you there may be one who doesn’t want to do that activity and can stay with the kids. Also depending on where you are, there may be some daycare options available.
