Camping Dinner Ideas
Summertime camping is one of the most memorable times of year for families. Nothing beats cooking your dinner over an open fire and spending quality time together in the great outdoors. But even the most experienced campers can use a few new ideas to spice up their meals. Here are some of our favorites.
Campfire Nachos
Campfire nachos are a fun and easy camping dinner idea that everyone will love. You can essentially put anything that you want on them which makes them fun for the whole family and easy to do on a camping trip. All you need is to make sure you have some tortilla chips and some cheese. As long as you have those 2 ingredients you’re good to go because you can add anything that you have with you on top of it. If you have any leftover chicken from another meal, a great way to use it is to put it on your campfire nachos!
Shrimp “Boil”
Ever think it would be possible and hassle free to cook a shrimp boil on a camping trip? Well it is! All you need is some shrimp, sausage, corn on the cob, maybe a few other veggies, and some seasoning. You can either bring the seasoning with you on your trip, or you can pre-season the whole thing and bring it in a tupperware for more ease. The great thing about a camping shrimp boil is the fact that it’s basically a dump and cook method. All you need to do is throw all the components together and sprinkle in the seasoning. You can also cook this in a pot or skillet or just put it in some foil.
Campfire Fish Tacos
This one has got to be one of our favorites. The use of fresh seafood and the char of the campfire is something that will keep you coming back for more. A great thing about tacos is that you don’t have to have a ton of toppings and ingredients if you don’t want to, they are what you make them and can be good either way. These are especially great if you are a fisherman and spend a portion of your camping trip out on the lake, stream, or river catching fish. There’s nothing quite like setting out in the morning, catching some fish, and coming back to camp to cook it up fresh for dinner. Put on some seasonings and olive oil and throw the fish on the grill over the campfire. Then you can also warm the tortillas over the fire as well and put whatever toppings you want.
Campfire Pizza
This is another one that’s fun for the whole family to make and you can also get creative with ingredients. Make it easy by getting store bought prepared pizza dough, tomato sauce, and pre-shredded cheese. At camp, all you have to do is stretch out and shape the dough, add tomato sauce, sprinkle the cheese, and add any toppings you have/want on top. Then you just cook it over the fire and the taste is even better than in the oven at home. The great thing is that everyone can make their own personal sized pizza and put whatever they want on theirs. It’s fun for the whole family!
